Morelia & Mexico City tour 2024

I hope you’re doing well! This is Paco from The Monkey Experience, and I wanted to share with you one of the most special experiences we’ve had recently. This time, 10 amazing people joined us on a tour in Morelia, and I can’t wait to tell you what happened.

We started in Pátzcuaro, where we were pleasantly surprised by a Day of the Dead parade organized by local university faculties. In my opinion, it was even more impressive than the one in Mexico City! Watching students from different faculties compete with their altars and costumes was a vibrant showcase of the tradition’s incredible energy.

But the best part came next, in Santa Fe de la Laguna, a picturesque Purepecha village. Here, families who have lost a loved one that year decorate their doors with signs inviting others to bring food offerings. We were fortunate enough to visit the house of Doña Francisca, who had passed away that year. Her sister Luz welcomed us with such warmth, accepting our offerings of sugar cane and oranges. And as if that wasn’t enough, she invited us to share some delicious pozole, atole, and bread. It’s incredible how her family cooks for the entire village!

Finally, we ended the tour at the Tzinzunzan cemetery, considered one of the most photogenic in the region. It’s a place where the connection with lost loved ones feels tangible, offering a serene atmosphere like no other.

For me this tour is one of the best experience that you can live in your life, I think you learn a new perspective of the dead!
